In the Beginning
Considered by many to be the ‘founding father’ of espresso coffee, my great-grandfather Hermann Ernest Hausbrandt encountered a small plant when he was young that would change his destiny and that of our family for generations to come … the coffee plant. During the late 19th century in Trieste, Italy he began to roast, sell and later export espresso coffee around the world, contributing significantly to the reputation that Trieste still retains today as the ‘espresso coffee capital’ of the world.
Over the Years

Loosely translated Antica Tostatura Triestina means “Old Roast of Trieste”. This name is dedicated to the traditions of my family and to the city of Trieste where the product is still exclusively roasted. Today, over a century and four generations later, Antica espresso is served in some of the finest retail establishments in 26 countries worldwide. Since 1996, Antica Tostatura Triestina has also been served in some of the best restaurants and coffee shops in New York City, and by well known personalities such as Martha Stewart, Mario Batali, Terence Brennan, David Bouley & Todd English.
Today …

Our philosophy is based not on saving time, but rather on the time it takes to get the coffee just right. Our drive for quality is a constant and all-consuming passion, helping to maintain the key elements of what should make your experience of our truly Italian espresso coffee so special. It is with this in mind that we are now looking to introduce the product and grow the brand across the USA with partners who share our commitment to simplicity, quality, consistency, customer support and an unwavering attention to the small detail.
We looking forward to speaking with you soon.
